Opening Thoughts...

Rollerbladers with fire coming out of their helmets gets a big thumbs up from myself and Karlo. Michelle didn't think ordering a pair sounded like a good idea. Karlo said grandma would get us some for his birthday. The firey anvil was also a nice touch. Gabriel bad, the fat man, pretty good.

The commentary was surprisingly horrid. I, at times, have enjoyed Bob Costas. Since he filled in for Jack Buck on Cardinal radio broadcasts when I was a kid, I usually give him the benefit of the doubt. But his Miss Cleo interruptions ruined any possible surprise or drama that was left in the ceremonies. Bob, next time you want to tell me something ahead of time, give me a call, and hit me with some Lotto numbers. The climbing white guys forming a dove would have been cool IF I DIDN"T KNOW THEY WERE GOING TO DO IT!!! I guess it's all in the spirit of tape-delay. He also was channeling Tim McCarver as a master of the obvious. "The people all dressed in green standing in the shape of a tree represents a tree." "The Italian flag represents the country of Italy." "The circles represent round." Okay, I made that last one up. Maybe. Also, Bob, Janica won 4 medals in Salt Lake. You've had four years to learn how to pronounce her name, and it's still miserable.

Bob Costas, consider yourself WARNED!

And what was with Bill O'Reilly providing color commentary? I though he worked for Fox. Just brutal. "Right now, Italian forces are flying missions over Iraq side by side with our American troops." "For all you Italian Americans out there..." There was also some WWII refernce in there, but Earth to Bill: They were shooting at us.

Of course, leading off the night with Michelle Kwan story was a harbinger of doom. Then this afternoon led off with MK, too. The silver lining is that if MK keeps crying AT EVERY PRACTICE, they'll save some money on the Zamboni.

Gotta go, men's luge is up next.

When you were upstairs tending to your howler monkeys, Costas let off some good ones, commenting on the seemingly random array of 80s pop music during the parade of nations (especially when "YMCA" got played). Even that O'Reilly wannabe got into it.
